FSACCI NEWSLETTER - August 2017
For the French business community, each South African winter is a time for farewell and staff reorganisation. As spring approaches, many French companies will welcome new CEOs or country managers. I have in mind Eric Mazillier at Decathlon, Luc Koechlin at EDF, the new Director at the French school in Johannesburg and, of course, the new Director of Business France, Axel Baroux, to mention but a few. The French consulates in Johannesburg and Cape Town are also about to welcome a new Consul General. To all the new members of our business community and partners, I extend a very warm welcome. We look forward to working with you. Please feel at home at the French South African Chamber and do not hesitate to share new ideas with us.
Our winter was also a time for new store openings – Leroy Merlin, Decathlon and Roche Bobois, each opened a new store in Johannesburg. FSACCI members operating in the retail sectors are blossoming... Congratulations to all in this regard!
In September and October, FSACCI will be organising not less than 8 events. A new committee, the Legal Committee, coordinated by François Chaptal, will convene for the first time in October. Together with the Embassy of France to South Africa, we are launching a new club "Sustainable Development in Cities", to promote some of our French members' skills and expertise in that domain.
At a time when we are encountering some headwinds, all these new energies that will flow with the coming spring should indeed give us a feel-good spirit. Wishing you a good spring!
(Erratum: We announced Leroy Merlin and Lycée Français Jules Verne's new memberships last month but have mistaken their website. All our apologies)

Who's Who & Who's New
Brandon & Grant (Atnet Planet) in the spotlight
For youngsters Brandon Como and Grant Oosterwyk, growing up in the Cape Flats was about economic survival and avoiding gangs. Today Oosterwyk and Como are partners at a start-up in Johannesburg, the FSACCI Platinum Member Atnetplanet SA, a digital agency that’s a spin-off of the European company that has branches in France and Spain. They develop digital marketing strategies for big brands and list Nutella, Barcelona Football Club and Haribo as clients.
Helen Swingler wrote an article about them in UCT News.
Thanks Jacques !
His smile and his laugh will be missed. Honorary FSACCI Board member, Jacques Toregrossa, Managing Director of the French Trade Commission-Business France* South Africa and Southern and East Africa, will retire in a few days. This great and friendly professional arrived in South Africa in July 2012. He was known for his generosity (he was always available to give a hand) and the way he was bringing together his team. Always positive, even if not masking the difficulties, Jacques was a great asset to convince French companies to prospect in South Africa. FSACCI Board & Team would like to say thank you for our collaboration.
* Business France public mission is to foster export growth for French business, in particular by helping French companies prospecting in South Africa, whereas FSACCI is helping them to set up and grow. Business France is also promoting the international internship program of VIE and we host some of them in our offices.
Axel Baroux will take over Jacques Toregrossa's mission. A very warm welcome to him.
